10 Tips for Happy Exercising
 
Follow these tips to help you become a healthier, fitter and happier you!

1. SET GOALS – set some short term achievable goals as they are a great way to keep you motivated and focused. And remember to reward yourself when you achieve them!

2. HAVE FUN – choose activities and exercise that you enjoy. There are so many  – walking, swimming, cycling, dancing, jogging, going to the gym... If you enjoy what
you are doing you are more likely to continue doing it.

3. BE REALISTIC – Don’t do too much too soon. Try and aim towards doing half an hour of moderate activity most days of the week, but gradually build up to this, especially if you haven’t been active. Remember if you have any medical conditions or concerns make sure you consult your doctor first.

4. DRINK LOTS – Keep a bottle of water with you during the day and when exercising. When you exercise you sweat and it’s important to replace lost fluids. Don’t wait until you are thirsty.

5. EAT WELL – Eat a healthy balanced diet.  Don’t exercise straight after a meal as your body is busy digesting the food, wait for 1-2 hours. If you need energy before exercise try a carbohydrate-based snack, such as a banana, 15-20 minutes beforehand. Also remember to refuel afterwards.

6. GET ENOUGH SLEEP - You need to sleep to give your body a chance to rest & recharge, so go to bed at a good time so that you can wake up refreshed and with the energy you need to exercise.

7. LOOK AFTER YOUR FEET - Invest in a pair of good comfortable trainers as these will support and protect your feet and help prevent injuries.

8. GET SUPPORT – Tell your friends and family about your goals so they can support you, or exercise with a friend. If you can afford it, get a personal trainer, as they can help you optimize your health and fitness.

9. USE YOUR DIARY – Schedule in advance when you are going to exercise so that other things don’t get in the way and so that it becomes part of your daily routine.

10. DON’T GIVE UP – Some days it might be hard to exercise but don’t give up, focus on your goals and remember that exercise can make you fitter, healthier and happier!
